Khadi board to brand and market two unique products from every district [Times of India]

Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board has identified two unique handicraft products from every district for marketing and branding. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated an exhibition of such unique crafts during 59th foundation day of the board here on Sunday.

The board has targeted to provide Rs 65.33-crore assistance to 1,576 handicraft units in 2014-15 financial year and employment to 12,600 people. In last five years, the board has provided aid of Rs 83.75 crore to 4,997 units and jobs to 36,781 people, said board president Tejeswar Parida.

"Marketing and branding are major requirements for any product. We have decided to promote the unique selling proposition of these products and market them," said Parida.

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) minister Jogendra Behera said, "After the formation of MSME Act, the coverage and scope of the sector have increased. The department is also working on an entrepreneurship development policy to help small-scale and village industries." The state government is implementing Chief Minister Employment Generation Programme for extending loans to unemployed youths for promoting entrepreneurship, he added.
