Union government announced to upgrade and modernise MKCG and VSS Medical Colleges and Hospitals in the state. This was informed by the Union health minister Harsh Vardhan informed the Parliament.
Minister Harsh Vardhan informed the Parliament that under the third phase of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakshya Yojana, 39 government medical colleges including MKCG-Berhampur and VSS-Burla. For up-gradation of the two premier health institutes and hospitals in Odisha, an amount of Rs 150 crore would be spent, of which the Centre would spend Rs 120 crore, while the state has to provide the matching grant of Rs 30 crore, Vardhan stated.
The union health minister further stated that some district headquarters hospitals and referral hospitals would also be upgraded and modernised. As per the minister’s information district headquarter hospitals in Koraput, Bolangir, Baripada, Puri and Balasore have been chosen for a facelift, sources stated.
